Finding student accommodation in Bristol

Well, we may only be in the first months of the 2013 academic year but December is when the early birds start arranging their student accommodation for the next year.

Whether you are still recovering from Freshers’ Week or are knee deep in Wordsworth, we wouldn’t blame you if you aren’t yet planning for next month- let alone next year. But finding your perfect student house will really help to make your time at University special, so here are a few tips from Gough Quarters to help you find the right property for you:

Location, location, location!

Where is your campus? Where do you go out? Where will your friends live? Where do you shop? If all of these are in the same place then you probably have an easy decision to make. If they are not, you will have to prioritise based on what is most important to you.  For example, if you are going to be travelling from one part of Bristol to another on a daily basis give some thought to bus routes, or if you have a car, your parking options.

Who do you want to live with?

Are you going to stick with your current housemates? Or are there new people in your life? It’s worth sounding your friends out early about their plans for next year, so you know who is available and who is not. Bear in mind that you will normally share liability for each other’s rent so make sure you can trust your prospective housemates!

What kind of property do you want?

There is so much choice in Bristol it will help if you start searching with an idea of what you would require. Something with a garden for BBQs when it is sunny? Or maybe a driveway is essential for a guaranteed parking space? Thinking ahead will make the search a lot easier.

Budget appropriately

The last thing you want to do is sign a contract on a gorgeous place to rest your head but then have sleepless nights worrying about the cost. Work out a price range you can afford and stick to it. From Clifton to Montpelier and Horfield to Fishponds, there are so many ‘studenty’ parts of Bristol that you are bound to find one to match your budget.

So there is plenty of food for thought. Digest it now to be ahead of the game.
