Charming Victorian terraces and semi-detached houses characterise the largely residential area that is St Andrews, Bristol.

It sits as a well-to-do district between Montpelier and Bishopston with Gloucester Road providing most of the amenities. In the words of one former resident it is populated by students and ‘yummy mummies’.  So despite being residential, St Andrews has a young energy about it.

Gloucester Road awaits you

With the middle section of Gloucester road nearby, you won’t be short of local shopping options if you choose to live in St Andrews. There are butchers, bakers (although not candle-stick makers), greengrocers and a host of other independent shops that are all much loved by locals.

Local’s Tip: Conveniently in this age of Amazon and ebay, St Andrews plays host to one of the Royal Mail’s main sorting offices in Bristol so residents do not have to trek across town when that inevitable ‘Sorry you were out’ card gets posted through the letterbox.

Of course Gloucester Road also provides St Andrew’s residents with excellent eating and drinking options.

St Andrews Park

At the heart of St Andrews is the park: a well-manicured swathe of green with a substantial play park as well as a café. It is a great facility for children and their mums and dads.   During winter, at the first sight of snow out come the toboggans to whizz down the slopes. This is a park for all seasons.

At the far end of St Andrews the houses get pleasing views across the Ashley Vale allotments, while other parts of St Andrews get dramatic cityscape views of the Centre.

Getting to and from St Andrews

It is convenient for getting to the centre, too: just a short walk or bus ride down Gloucester Road. Montpelier train station gives good access to Temple Meads, Redland and Clifton, while the M32 is close by for a quick getaway out of the city. As St Andrews is so central and popular it is well advised to check on the local travel information before setting out on a journey.
